One Chapter Ends. Another Begins.

After nearly a year of preparation, I am pleased to share that TreesROI submitted its National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II proposal on June 16, 2026. Submitting the proposal marks an important milestone, but it represents much more than completing an application.

Over the past year, our team strengthened the technical foundation of INSIGHT®, our 3D GPR Tree CT System for non-destructive root inspection of containerized nursery trees. We expanded relationships with industry leaders, researchers, and technology partners, secured trademark registrations in the United States and Canada, and filed our second U.S. non-provisional utility patent. Each accomplishment reflects years of collaboration, persistence, and a shared commitment to improving the quality of tree roots before planting.

Like many research journeys, the path was not always straightforward. Shifting timelines, technical challenges, intellectual property development, and a few unexpected life events tested patience and perseverance. Through it all, we are constantly reminded that meaningful progress is never achieved alone.

One of the greatest gifts of this journey has been the remarkable community that has grown around TreesROI. From our team to our collaborators, advisors, research partners, industry leaders, friends, and family, I am deeply grateful. Your encouragement, thoughtful questions, honest advice, and confidence have carried this project farther than you may realize.

As we await the NSF reviewers’ decision, we will continue to strengthen relationships, advance the technology, protect our intellectual property, and explore new opportunities to improve the value, quality, benefits, and lifespan of the trees we grow where we live.

People often ask what inspires this work. To me, the answer is simple.

We need trees to live.
